Via Nova School

Health Services

At Via Nova School we take care of our learners. The sisters on-site are professional medical nurses, who attend to all medical and related matters in an effective and professional manner.

Via Nova School has two nurses on site currently. Both nurses work in all phases of the school with different work divisions. They both have very admirable qualities to work with ASD learners such as love, patience, empathy and compassion, to name a few.

Their core function at Via Nova is to provide health care to learners with acute and chronic illnesses, administer medication as prescribed, conduct screenings and write referrals to health care facilities. They work closely with Eersterus Clinic, Steve Biko Academic Hospital and the School Health Team for Region 5.

They are also responsible for checking if the feeding scheme is providing nutritious meals as per Departmental guidelines.  In addition, they are part of the Safety, Care and Wellness Committee of the school.
